I am Cristina Călinoiu, a Romanian painter. I've been painting for roughly 2 years. Not many, I know, but I plan to extend it indefinitelly.

I live in Bucharest, Romania, and Chamonix, France, where I work, rock climb and ski.

I love life, nature, and have always loved stories. I believe they connect us with our ancertors' wisdom, and help us understand the world and ourselves.

If you feel the same, and want to see how new stories are created, follow me in my art journey.

Cristina and her art

Cristina grew up in Romania’s post-communist years, in the capital city, Bucharest. With busy working parents, she and her sister searched for ways to spend their time and entertain themselves. When they weren’t in school or playing with other kids, they used to create all kinds of fun games for themselves. As a teenager, Cristina realized that she liked drawing, so she used the art books in her parents’ library as an inspiration. She started by copying the old masters, then drawing her own feet, hands, or face, and later drawing jewelry or pop artists.

It was only much later that, in the summer of 2022, she finally decided to study art, attending the Mastery Program at Milan Art Institute.

She loves using all kinds of mediums in her process - charcoal, graphite, collage, inks, sprays, markers, oils. They all find their way on her canvas and combine for an eclectic style.

In her tiny studio, magic and wizardry happen as she creates vibrant, surreal, sometimes absurd images that foster imagination and self-expression. She draws her inspiration from the natural world and uses allegory and personification to express the interferences between the animal and the human world.

Through her art, Cristina hopes to stir others to be themseves, their hero, in their own story, despite judgment, critics or rejection.
